How To Make Your Interior Walls Sound Proof

Q. What is the best way to sound proof walls? Please tell me the various methods of soundproofing walls.

A. There are several methods of sound proofing walls. While it's best done before the drywall has been installed here are some ways of soundproofing existing walls.

Blown In Insulation. This method requires drilling holes in the sheetrock and blowing in the insulation. It could be either fiberglass or cellulose. Either way you won't worry about it's insulative value but more of it's sound proofing qualities. In this case it's best to have the wall cavities densely filled. Once the wall has been soundproofed the holes will need to be covered and the sound proofed wall will need to be painted.

Installing Sound Proof Fiberglass Batts. This will require removing the drywall from one side of the wall. Once removed fiberglass batts are installed into the wall cavities. Once installed the wall will need to be recovered with drywall and painted.

As you can see insulating walls for the purposes of sound proofing can be quite a project. While it can be a do it yourself project it's best done by a insulation contractor. They will be able to soundproof your walls much quicker than you can with minimal mess and debris. Contact your local insulation specialist for more information.
