Why insulate?

Did you know that up to 70 percent of the energy used in an average American home goes toward heating and cooling. Adding insulation can reduce this cost. Insulation can also be used for soundproofing interior walls and floors. Insulation is also beneficial as it is generally non-combustible and can help reduce the speed in which fire could spread in the home.

How it works:

Insulation is measured in r-values - the higher r-value the greater resistance it provides to heat and cold. R-value is calculated based on the thickness of the insulation to be added.

Types of insulation:

Insulation comes in many types. Fiberglass is the most popular and can be blown in or installed as batts. Cellulose is made from wood products and is environmentally friendly. Other types include spray foam, rock wool and radiant foil barriers.

Eligibility is generally based on the property owners incomes. Services include assistance with home energy efficiency items such as attic insulation, water heater blankets, caulking and other energy conservation measures.
